The historic Sierra Madre Range occupies the western most section of the Medicine Bow National Forest. Historically, gold and copper mining, and later logging, were the big attraction to this range. However, today, wildlife and related outdoor activities are the primary attraction.
The Sierra Madre Mountain range is lightly visited making it possible to explore dense forest areas, hike and bike scenic trails and fish for hours without seeing another person. Two scenic drives provide gorgeous natural beauty and take the traveler to several attractions and trails including the
Continental Divide national scenic trail.
There is only one hard surface road that crosses this range, SR 70 which crosses the continental divide at Battle Pass
