The Comal Springs Go Down Go Back
Comal Springs is located along the Balcones fault zone in New Braunfel, Texas. The Balcones fault makes an expression here as a steep limestone bluff, which at it′s base this group of springs are found. There are seven major springs and many smaller within a distance of less than a miles distance along this bluff.
Comal is a spanish word for a flat griddle used for cookijng tortillas. Thus, the naming of this spring refers to the flat areas below the bluff where the springs emerge.

The Spring
Comal springs are the largest concentration of naturally occurring freshwater springs in Texas and emerge as the result of water percolating through the Edwards Aquifer formation.
The water from Comal spring at Landa park in New Braunfels not only tastes good, but has a high alkaline pH reading of 8 pH.
The Camino
Comal spring is located along the highway known as El Camino Real, specifically the Camino de los Tejas which highway would take travelers from Mexico city through Texas to the east Texas settlement in Nacogdoches and to the Louisiana settlement in Natchitoches.
