The Pacific Coast Region, Oregon

The High Cascades Ecoregion Go Down Go Back
The High Cascades ecoregion in Oregon has several mountain over 10,000 feet including the highest elevation in the state on 11,239 feet atop the Mount Hood volcano, located in the northern part of the Cascades and Crater Lake National Park located in the southern area in which is one of the Grand Lodges, Crater Lake Lodge.
This ecoregion is somewhat the same as what is in Washington to the north, however the elevations are not as high.

High Cascades Lower Slopes
The lower slopes consists of steep ridges and narrow valleys with elevation below 3300 feet. The winds and weather from the pacific ocean maintain a mild, wet climate promoting lush forests dominated by Douglas-fir and western hemlock and providing one of the most important timber harvesting area in the Pacific Northwest,
High Cascades Highlands
The higher slopes consists of steep glaciated mountains cut into by high gradient streams with elevations from 3300 to about 5600 feet. There is a regular deep annual snow pack causing the soils to be of both frigid and cryic temperature but without permafrost. This much colder high elevation area supports Douglas fir, mountain hemlock, noble fir, Pacific silver fir and western hemlock.
High Cascades Crest and Subalpine Meadows
The Cascade Crest and meadow area consists of undulation plateaus punctuated by volcanic buttes and cones reaching up to the elevation of 6600 feet. The area's volcanic activity is from the Pliocene and later periods and has been heavily glaciated which cause many lakes to be formed. This area has large forested stands of mountain hemlock and Pacific silver fir.
The areas of Subalpine and Alpine are on high, glaciated volcanic peaks rising in elevations from 6600 to 12000 feet. Here, the winters are harsh with a short growing season, which limits the flora to herbaceous and low growing shrubs with scattered area of mountain hemlock, subalpine fir and whitebark pine.
Cascade Range
The Cascade Range or more commonly called The Cascades is a North American Pacific Coast Region mountain range, extending from southeastern British Columbia through eastern Washington, eastern Oregon and into Northern California.
The Cascade Range includes the volcanic mountains in southeast British Columbia, referred to as the Canadian Cascades, the non-volcanic mountains in north Washington known as the North Cascades, and the notable long series of volcanoes from southeast Washington through to north California known as the High Cascades.
The highest peak in the Cascade Range is Mount Rainier, with an elevation of 14,411 (4,392 m) and located in Washington about fifty miles southeast of Seattle.

Ancient Steps:
Some time after the great flood, the second born son of Noah, whom God gave the command to "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth" (Genesis 9:1) there was the start of doing just that. Thus, Shem, when he was 100 years of age (Genesis 11:10), began to father his first son, Arpachshad two years after the Deluge, which was during the year of 2368 BCE. Arpachahad became father to Shelah, who became father to Eber. Two sons were born to Eber, Peleg (2268 BCE) and his brother Joktan (about 2268 BCE). (Genesis 10:26)
It was most likely about 2200 BCE, when Joktan, his wife, his thirteen sons, the sons wives and all of the grandchildren of Joktan depart from the ancient city of Ur and began their migration eastward, first to a mountain know as Sephar but then further east across the Asian continent which at that time was well watered and quite verdurous with many lakes of emerald water. This large nation of people continued northeastward following an endless procession of large lakes at which the nation would camp often.
As they proceeded northeastward, their direction changes to the southeast after which they arrive upon the shore of a great ocean. Here they camp for two weeks during which time Almodad, the firstborn of Joktan informs his father that he will make this coastline his homeland. Later, when Joktan resumes the migration he continue north along the coast and after many days, the he follows the coast eastward to what appears to be a narrow land passage to another body of land.
During the first migration, after crossing the land bridge, Joktan and his sons, also known as the Algonquian speaking indigenous people, did move southward from Beringia into the North American continent. As they continued, they came upon an immense inland sea where the size and quantity of the fish was unsurpassed from anything ever seen before. It was while camped along the banks of this great body of water that Joktan′s son Hadoram approached to speak to his father and tell him of the decision of his family to separate from the nation, settle in this land at this lakeshore and continue to build his tribe into a large nation.
Hadoram had twelve sons whose names were Coosan, Chinook, Kalapuya, Maidu, Salishii, Takelma, Tsimshia, Wiyot, Wintu, Yokutii, Miwok, and Sahaptii. Yes, these are the paternal heads of the twelve bands of indigenous people who were descendants of Hadoram, son of Joktan, son of Peleg, son of Eber, son of Shelah, son of Arpachshad, son of Seth who was born before God destroyed the wicked with the great flood.
When Joktan with the rest of the nation departed to the areas further into interior of the continent, Hadoram together with his sons began to build his homeland their on the banks of what was to become to be called Ta-Maschilamek Menuppek.
Here upon the bank of this lake, Hadoram has more sons and daughters, eventually having a total of twelve sons and five daughters. As his tribe began to grow larger, each of his sons would choose to take his band and mover to a location where he could build his own homeland.
