The Geological Wonders: Hot Springs & Geysers Go Down Go Back
Joyful Journey Hot Springs, Colorado
The Joyful Journey Hot Springs, located in the northern gateway to the beautiful San Luis Valley and boasts about its peaceful and relaxing spa and retreat. This hot springs goes on to say, "Enlighten your senses with our rejuvenating waters, relaxing massage therapies and magnificent views of the Sangre De Cristo mountain range."
The Joyful Journey hot springs site offers a variety of accommodations, ranging from comfortable Hotel Rooms with private bathrooms and aspen-wood furniture, native Tipis, all-season Yurts, RV sites and a campground.
Description:
This hot springs has some very friendly and nice people working in the spa center and I enjoyed my visit to this location. However, I only stayed for a partial day visit and did not avail myself of the available overnight accommodations.
Personally, I did not feel that the hot pool, which has a sign stating the water is between 105° and 108° was much hotter that the other pools which had signs with lesser temperatures posted.
When I first got into the so called Hot Pool, it actually felt like it was the temperature of bath water, not much more than 100°. So, I did the walk around to check the other four pools, two of which are just manufactured hot tubs and two other pools that are permanent built pools.
All and all, with the numbers rating of five stars, and because I had to pay for my entrance, I will most likely go elsewhere in the future to look for a location having pools with hotter water, or the same temperature water only free to access.
Driving Direction:
The hot springs is about 32 miles south of Salida and almost 50 miles north of Alamosa in the San Luis Valley of south central Colorado. It is located on State Highway 17 one mile south of the US Highway 285 junction.
From Alamosa, Colorado, cross the Rio Grande river on the Broadway Avenue bridge, drive about 1/2 mile to the light. Here, turn left onto SH 17 and drive north about 48 miles along a desert highway until arriving a the hot springs location on the right. There is a sign for the Hot Springs Spa on the property near the road. Turn right into the hot springs driveway.
