THE EARTH′S SEAS AND SEASHORES
The Cape Hatteras Seashore, North Carolina

The Cape Hatteras Seashore Go Down Go Back
Information:
Cape Hatteras is a barrier island of the north shore of North Carolina. A 70 mile long section extends from Bodie Island to Ocracoke Island and the national seashore is managed by the National Parks Service.
Cape Hatteras is a combination of natural and cultural resources, and provides a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
Once dubbed the Graveyard of the Atlantic for its treacherous currents, shoals, and storms, Cape Hatteras has a wealth of history relating to shipwrecks, lighthouses, and the US Lifesaving Service. The islands also provide a variety of habitats and are a valuable wintering area for migrating waterfowl. The park's fishing and surfing are considered the best on the East Coast.
Access:
There are two ways to reach Cape Hatteras. The access from the north is located at the junction of US 64 and SH 12 in Nags Head, North Carolina.
The southern entrance is located on SH 12 near Ocarcoke village, North Carolina and is accessible by ferry only from Cedar Island, North Carolina.
