The ruddy turnstone is seen in most all of North America during migration but not in the
Basin and Range region nor the
Rocky Mountains region.
The ruddy turnstone spends summer in the extreme northern areas of the
Canadian Lowlands as well and all of the northwestern coast of Alaska.
During winter, the ruddy turnstone can be found all along the Pacific coastal areas as well as
Coastal Plains of the south and east.
Fairly numerous in winter along beaches as well as inland during migration. Can often be seen on beaches, especially those with lots of pebbles or shells.
Short wedge shaped black bill, with a calico black back and bib. When in flight, it has elaborate white markings above. Patterns are similar in winter but usually much duller. Orange legs.
