Tropical. Previously rarely seen in United States, now seen regularly during winter in extreme south Texas along the Rio Grande river.

Seen near riparian woods, often in low growth. Will come to backyard feeders.

Larger than hooded oriole with a heaver bill.

Male has yellow-orange body with black face, bib, back, wings and tail with yellow-orange shoulder patch and white wing bars

Female similar to male but head is off yellow. Back, wings and tail are yellow-gray. Immature show adult plumage by second fall.
