The Alfred A. Loeb State Park Campground, Oregon

The Campsite
Alfred A. Loeb State Park Campground
History
The first park land was acquired by gift from the State Board of Forestry in 1958, which was a tract of 160 acres that had been purchased from Alfred A. Loeb of Portland in 1948 by the Board of Forestry and Save the Myrtle Woods, Inc. The intention for the purchase was to protect the outstanding native myrtle trees and other vegetation along the Chetco River.
The tract name, commemorating Loeb, was part of the original purchase agreement. The gift was, in turn, accepted by the Highway Commission after Curry County agreed to improve and oil the access road from U. S. Highway 101.
The park was expanded in 1963, by the purchase of an adjoining 40-acre tract. An additional, separated hillside tract of 120.23 acres was obtained by patent from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in 1962.

Awake, dress in my summer blues, grab my shower bag with my towel and walk across the street to the shower house for some hot water. The water is most nearly steamy hot or a couple degrees cooler, but just fine for this old man. After my shower, I walk back to the jammer and talk briefly with Brian, his wife Lorain, and his brother Mike. Both Brian and Mike were Boy Scouts, Life and Star respectively, and tell me that they began in the Cub Scouts very early. I give my card to Brian and he tells me that he would like to look at my book. I then go back to my campsite, sit outside to prepare my breakfast and cooking begin looking at the thick forest here where are several birds including numerous Steller′s jay.
This location is about ten mile inland from the Oregon coast and on the Chetco river, a campground with both river access as well as a sandy beach. Too, there is a mature hardwood forest in this park included Myrtlewood trees which seem to be a coveted wood in these parts. One thing this park does not have, at least for me personally, is phone reception and I will have to go back into Brookings, Oregon, eight miles west of here to connect to the meeting this coming Thursday evening.

Path to the River
I decide to walk to the river so I grab my camera and walk through my campsite to find at the back a small trail that leads to the river. Once there, I look around and find few people here so I take a few photos of the green water. I ask one person who is swimming and he says that the water is over ten feet deep.
