The Oriental range, according to a several sources, is said to have been cut by the Rio Grande river and that it traverses through west Texas as far north as just past the New Mexico state line and includes the major Texas Mountain ranges of the Chisos, Davis, Guadalupe as well as many other lesser ranges.
However, the map below shows the Franklin, Hueco and other mountain ranges, which are in extreme west Texas, and are part of the
Basin and Ranges region.
Methinks, that this area of west Texas which is part of the Chihuahuan Desert Mountains as an extension of the Sierra Madre Oriental ranges.

Description:
This desert is a nearctic realm and desert and xeric shrublands biome with and area of about 193,783 square miles (501,907 square kilometers) and is the largest hot desert in North America.
There are several large mountain ranges in the Chihuahuan Desert, including the Sierra Madre, the Sierra del Carmen, the Organ Mountains, the Franklin Mountains, the Sacramento Mountains, the Chisos Mountains, the Guadalupe Mountains, and the Davis Mountains. These numerous mountains create sky island of cooler, wetter, climates adjacent to ore within the desert, and such elevated areas have both coniferous and broadleaf woodlands, including forests along drainages and favored exposures.
