The EIGHTS
The Davis Mountain State Park, Texas

The Campsite
The Site Facts
The Davis Mountains are located south of the Guadalupe Mountains National Park and north of Big Bend National Park, both in West Texas, making this state park and ideal mid point location to overnight.
Site Coordinates: 30.59630 -103.93475 Elevation: 5104 feet

The Amenities
Birding, camping, lodging, hiking, biking, horseback riding, ranger programs, junior rangers, and some well built Civilian Conservation Corp structures.
This state park is in a remote area of Texas, however, there is much to do here. Close by is Fort Davis national historic site, McDonald Observatory with their star parties, Chihuahuan Desert nature center, Davis Mountains preserve and the Davis Mountains scenic loop drive, a 75 mile drive through the Davis Mountains which starts at Fort Davis.
Not far, in Alpine, Texas is the museum of the Big Bend. Also, two national parks are a short distance, Big Bend national park and Guadalupe national park. Also, the mysterious Marfa lights are to the south.

Best Little Bird Blind
In the park are two bird blinds, one of which has been dubbed the best little bird blind in Texas. There is also an interpretive center at the bird blind with information about the birds that frequent the blinds.
While I am at the bird blind, I also see acorn woodpecker, black-crested titmouse, black-throated sparrow western scrub jay, and others

The Camping
Stay at a campsite or at Indian Lodge, a historic 39 room motel in the park which has a restaurant, swimming pool and meeting rooms.
Park entrance fee: $6.00 per adult

Tent sites (water nearby): $15.00

The 2018 Journey, Davis Mountains State Park
Birding at it′s Best
I arrive back in Davis Mountains state park and will spend several hours at the bird blind photographing the many different birds here on the mountain and while here I will endeavor to get as many bird photos as possible.
However, after several hours with my camera at the bird blind, I realize that I have taken more photos that I will be able to process. In fact, the large number of birds and vast number of photos of each will more than likely keep me busy for years to come. Thus, I only hope that these many photos will someday find there way into the birding galleries within this website.
Thue, the small display below is just the start of sorting through the more than seven hundred photos taken during my four hours today at the bird blind.
