The 2025 Journey, Geological Wonders, Viewpoints Go Down Go Up
Once again, after I pack out of the campground, I begin my drive out of this state park, however, before I depart from the park completely, I stop at a couple of Lakeside overlooks for the view and some photos, which I will add to the photos of this state park later.
The Peace Pipe vista is a long set of steps down to a position where the lake is fully viewable. I only walk down five steps so that I could see the lower landing.

This viewpoint was some what different as it was a graded walkway with no steps. I was able to walk down to where there are a couple of benches and I sad down to rest before walking back up to the road.
According to a park information kiosk, the viewpoint was name for a preacher′s convention that camped here during the 1920s and the area has one of the oldest red pine stands in Itasca park. These red pines began to grow after a major fire burned the area during the 1710s.

After that, I stop at the Douglas Lodge to take a couple of photos and then, I drive out of the state park, take a couple of turns to return to US 71, where I resume my southbound drive through Minnesota.
