Order: Marsupiala, Family: Didelphidae, Genus: Didelphis, Species: Virginiana
The Virginia opossum is found throughout Central America and North America east of the Rockies from Costa Rica to southern Ontario.
The Virginia opossum was not originally native to the Western United States but was intentionally introduced during the Great Depression, probably as a source of food and now occupies much of the Pacific coast and is expanding into Canada.
