The CAMPSITES RATED THREE
The Byers Canyon Rim Campground, Colorado

The Campsite
Byers Canyon Rim Campground
Location:
The campground is located on the north rim of Byers Canyon in Colorado Recreation Lands southwest of Hot Sulphur Spring, Colorado.
From Sulphur Hot Springs, Colorado, on Grand Avenue, cross the Colorado River bridge and the road becomes Spring road. Continue west on Spring road towards the resort but before you cross the railroad tracks, turn left onto County Road 20 and drive along side the tracks with the Colorado River just to the left. In about 1000 feet, County Road 20 crosses the railroad tracks and begins to climb up onto tje forested area. From the railroad crossing, continue on CR 20 for 1.5 miles when you will leave the forested area and enter a non-forested section.
Drive for about another 600 feet until you come to a cattle guard across CR 20 and you will see a rough dirt road to the left going up to the ridge. Turn left onto this rough road and follow this road for about 1200 feet until you see a turnout on the right side overlooking the canyon. This is the campsite.

Colorado Recreation Lands
At the edge of the rim atop Byers Canyon is a little know free campsite, one which does not require a four-wheel drive vehicle to get to. However, the road up to the campsite is fairly rough so I personally would not drive a large RV or pull a trailer up to this location.
I have driven my Ford Aerostar up to the campsite on a couple of occasions, but I would never attempt it if it has been raining and the dirt road was anything by dry.
