Eight Lights
There are eight lights in Minnesota, six of which are active lights. One light is inactive, which has been converted to a museum, and one is in ruins.
The first lighthouse in the state was erected in 1858, which is the Minnesota Point Light and the last, Grand Marais, in 1922. The oldest active light is the Two Harbors Light which was lit in 1892.
Minnesota Point Light
The Minnesota Point light is located on the shore of Lake Superior and was the first lighthouse built in the state, but is now a truncated ruin tower.
History
The Minnesota Point Light is the first light built on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota and is the one now in ruins, of which only the tower remains.
The one and a half story dwelling that was built along side the tower was topped with a slate roof but the dwelling was short lived as the roof began leaking within ten years.
Then, in 1878, the Minnesota Point light was extinguished but then re-lit in 1880, but then in 1885, the Minnesota Point light was again extinguished for good.
