THE ORDER CETACEA
The Delphinidae Family

The Oceanic Dolphins Go Down Go Up
The Delphinidae Family of oceanic dolphins are a widely distributed family of mammals that live in the sea which has close to forty extant species recognized. This family includes several large species whose common name includes the word whale instead of dolphin. For example: killer whale (orca), pilot whale and round-headed whales.
Oceanic dolphins range in size from less than six feet to over 30 feet in length, from about 100 pounds to 22,000 pounds. Too, several species exhibit sexual dimorphism, with the males being larger than the females.
