The
2020 Journey
|
|
|
Having driven from southern California across the desert to Texas, the into the Hill Country for a short stop, I then head to the south of Texas in the Citrus Zone where I find my winter hiatus for one more cold season. Upon arriving, I begin putting together Episode Three, Journey to Lenapehoking, compiling it in the preformatted template that I had created earlier and the Story Keeper begins to take shape.

Overnighting on a street
Leaving Harlingen on a run to get into hot water, I drive north on IH 69E to Robstown turn northwest on IH 37 and drive to Lake Corpus Christi state park, register to overnight with electric and then drive to campsite number 2. I plug in, begin charging batteries and set up my computer to catch up on the journal writing. Too, I set up to cook a pot of my Repast and when the meal is done, I bring it into the jammer and set it on the carpet behind the driver seat to let it cool while I drink the broth that I have drained from the cook pot.
Then at about five-thirty this evening, I notice that color has begun to form in the western sky, so not wanting to miss any opportunity to photograph a colorful sunset, I grab my camera and begin walking towards the lakeshore. Although thinking that there is not going to be much color, much less a spectacular sunset, I nevertheless continue towards the lakeshore, but just before the suntouch, I notice something peculiar in the sky.
Right away, I recognize the colorful display as a double
parhelion and immediately begin taking photos.
After watching and photographing an amazing parhelion, I continue taking photos of the sunglow, which is most likely the best sunglow photos I have had the privilege to photograph in a very long time; and I have had some really good one this past year.
(Day
524 TG) 58°F. 6:50 am, fog
Awake, dress, walk inside for hot tea, com and computer. At nine, I pack out and drive north on IH 02 to go for my weekly hot shower. I once told a brother that I take a hot shower once a week if I need it or not and we both laughed because I was joking, now it seems to have come true.

(Day 601 TG) 50°F. 6:00 am, sunny
Awake, walk inside for a hot shower after which, I boil a pot of water and make a cup of coffee and a cup of tea. Then, I unplug the jammer, roll up the cord and put it away. Next, I walk to the back of the trailer and turn the water heater to pilot, after which I lock the rental. Finally, I get into the jammer, take a sip of the coffee and then pull out of the driveway one last time. The journey on has resumed!
By the time the sun is mid way in the sky on this day, I have driven out of California, across more than half of Arizona to Phoenix where I stop to purchase some sprouted grains. After leaving the hg-mart, I look for an open w-mart but have no success.
Finally, I leave out of Phoenix east on US 60 and after passing Apache Junction, Arizona, begin the climb up onto the high plateau. I drive over one and then at sunset, I begin my drive down into the Salt River canyon. I see how the sunglow is casting all kinds of shadows so I stop to take photos of the sunglow. I stop several times as I drive into the canyon, each time adding to my photo collection. At last, I arrive at the Salt river where I stop at the rest stop for the night.
First, I transfer the photos to my computer and then begin to crop and resize. In a short time, I have added this section and have written the code for including the photos.

After about an hour, I turn off the technology and get horizontal for the night.

On the drive down from
Emory Pass on the Continental Divide in
Gila National Forest, New Mexico, I am able to catch several photos of the sunglow over Silver City just ahead of me.

Arriving at Red Feather Lakes campsite on 01 May 2020, my plans are to spend all month here camping on the mountain with my friend and spiritual brother Gordon. Although the campsite we stay at does not have any view of the sunrise, nor a clear view of the sunset, some photos are available.

Sojourn on The Island
Having a landscaping job to do while here in Oak Harbor, my days off will be spent driving north to the state park for hot showers and photos of the sunsets.

I leave town late in the evening to drive to the state park for a hot shower and on the way, I see that the sunglow has already begun and stop along the highway to take a photo. Then, I drive across the bridge, stop at the Bowman Bay campground to fill my need in the hot water and then drive back across the bridge to drive to West Point for photos of the sunset.
Upon arriving, the sunglow is in full glory and the sky is the clearest that I have seen it since I arrived here nearly a month ago when I crossed the
Bridge.
I drive to
Deception Pass, stop at the West Beach parking lot and because the sky is so clear, I take photos of the
Olympic Mountains, the
San de Fuca Straight and then walk out to West Point and begin taking photos here, which because this sunset is the best I have seen so far, end up taking over a hundred photos.
